System Engineer
Work with enterprise monitoring customers to correct problems and create opportunities as follows:
- Troubleshooting and providing original solutions and workarounds to problems on end user systems.
- Validating, reproducing and documenting software flaws for input to the GroundWork Engineering team.
- Deliver advice and guidance concerning the substantial inventory of best practices for the successful use of GroundWork products.
- Contribute approved solutions to a knowledge base to be shared with internal engineers, partners, customers, and the open source community.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the systems used to automate and facilitate the support process as well as to increase effective case deflection.
- Prepare scripts needed to diagnose problems or create solutions.
- Provide situational training to customers on installation, configuration, and maintenance of the company’s enterprise monitoring products.
Compensation will be a salary commensurate with experience.
In this organization, perhaps more than others, a very high value will be placed on the documentation of technical shared knowledge.
Qualifications Include:
- Solid Linux proficiency.
- Familiarity with at least one of the following Open Source Tools: Cacti, Nagios(R), Nagios(R) plugins, RRDTool, SNMPTT, Syslog-NG, MySQL
- Must be proficient in at least one scripting language.
- Familiarity with Java, Perl, C, and PHP are a plus.
- Familiarity with JBOSS and the JBOSS portal are a big plus.
- Prior experience in support and familiarity with support processes a plus.
- Good written and oral communication skills a must. In particular the candidate must be able to be clearly understood in conversations with native speakers of American English in telephone conversations.
